A Brief History

It all started on the corner of Center and Bremen in Milwaukee’s near north side. It was 1929 and Louis and Sonie Hack opened a small grocery store called Hack’s.

“I remember my grandmother telling me a story about her mother, Sonie Hack,” says Adam Bernstein. It was during the Great Depression and people didn’t have a lot of money. Many people couldn’t even afford food. Often times Sonie would allow her customers to put their food bill on an “in-house account.” The customers knew Sonie would never ask for the money and Sonie knew she’d never be paid. “I asked my grandmother why Sonie would give food away for free.” She explained that Sonie was a very smart lady and that she believed in making life-long customers. So when the Depression was over, many of these people came from far away just to buy their groceries at Hack’s and to repay their debt.

Sonie instilled in her children, Harry, Florence and Sidney, the importance of customer service. So in 1944 when Harry and Sidney joined Florence at Hack’s Furniture they too set out to provide unparalleled customer service along with the greatest shopping experience available. They were so successful that Hack’s Furniture lasted for nearly half a century.

Today patients will tell Adam stories about when they bought their new furniture from Hack’s. They tell stories of how Harry, Florence and Sidney made them feel like the most important customer in the world. They all point out that it was customer service that set Hack’s apart from all of their competitors.

With The Hearing Professionals Adam continues Sonie Hack’s tradition of great customer service. Adam is committed to improving his patient’s quality of life through better hearing – not to sell them the most expensive hearing aid possible.
